About The WWII Project

Why would someone blog events that happened 70 years ago?

The reason I’m doing this is that I’ve always been fascinated by reading old newspapers and exploring history through the eyes of those who were living it. There’s an awful lot to learn about history by seeing it in the context of the times and experiencing the ‘fog of war’.

I’ve always digested everything I could find about the Pacific half of WWII and wanted to learn a lot more about the war in Europe. I figured what better way to do that than to write about each day, one at a time. Hopefully you will find this approach as interesting as I do.

History buffs and students, in particular, should find the blog very enlightening and informative.

As I start this project on January 6, 2011, I’m initially relying a great deal upon the New York Times Archives. As time goes on, I hope to expand this to other sources as well.
